Pampa Galeras – Barbara D’Achille is located in Ayacucho and it is the habitat of the vicuña.
Every 24 June there is a big "fiesta del Chaccu" where hundreds of people are trapping the vicuñas by a big fence and by a long rope. So the vicuñas are driven into a corner where after a scissor's dance and after an inca ceremony they can be cropped. The dance and the ceremony are probably performed as a pledge to the gods that the gods will agree with taking the crop. Vicuñas give the most precious wool.
